Conditions we treat

PTSD

Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) can develop after experiencing or witnessing a frightening or life-threatening event. It is a common and treatable response to trauma.

What it can look like

  • Unwanted memories, nightmares or flashbacks
  • Avoiding reminders of the event
  • Feeling constantly on guard or easily startled
  • Feeling numb or detached from others
  • Guilt, shame or negative beliefs about yourself or the world

Only a qualified clinician can make a diagnosis. Many of these experiences overlap with other conditions.

How we help

Trauma-informed care is central to how we work. Treatment may include trauma-focused psychotherapy with our licensed counselor, medication, or both, coordinated by your care team.

All care at EKM Psychiatry is delivered by secure telehealth across New York.

Primary Care PTSD Screen (PC-PTSD-5)

Private: your answers stay on your own device. They are scored in your browser and are never sent to EKM Psychiatry or saved. This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

Sometimes things happen to people that are unusually or especially frightening, horrible, or traumatic. For example: a serious accident or fire; a physical or sexual assault or abuse; an earthquake or flood; a war; seeing someone be killed or seriously injured; having a loved one die through homicide or suicide. Have you ever experienced this kind of event?
