Conditions we treat

Depression

Depression is more than feeling sad. It is a common, treatable medical condition that affects mood, thinking, sleep, energy and the ability to enjoy life.

What it can look like

  • Low or empty mood most of the day
  • Loss of interest or pleasure in things you used to enjoy
  • Changes in sleep or appetite
  • Low energy and trouble concentrating
  • Feelings of guilt or worthlessness
  • Thoughts of death or suicide

Only a qualified clinician can make a diagnosis. Many of these experiences overlap with other conditions.

How we help

We start with a thorough evaluation that looks at your symptoms, medical history and what has or hasn’t worked before. Treatment may include medication management, psychotherapy, or both, and we use measurement-based care to track how you are doing over time. Pharmacogenomic testing can help guide medication choices when appropriate.

All care at EKM Psychiatry is delivered by secure telehealth across New York.

Private: your answers stay on your own device. They are scored in your browser and are never sent to EKM Psychiatry or saved. This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

Over the last 2 weeks, how often have you been bothered by any of the following problems?

1. Little interest or pleasure in doing things
2. Feeling down, depressed, or hopeless
3. Trouble falling or staying asleep, or sleeping too much
4. Feeling tired or having little energy
5. Poor appetite or overeating
6. Feeling bad about yourself — or that you are a failure or have let yourself or your family down
7. Trouble concentrating on things, such as reading the newspaper or watching television
8. Moving or speaking so slowly that other people could have noticed — or the opposite, being so fidgety or restless that you have been moving around a lot more than usual
9. Thoughts that you would be better off dead or of hurting yourself in some way
