Conditions we treat
Adjustment Disorder
Adjustment disorder is a stronger-than-expected emotional or behavioral reaction to a stressful life change, such as a loss, move, illness, divorce or job change.
What it can look like
- Feeling sad, hopeless or overwhelmed after a stressful change
- Worry, nervousness or trouble sleeping
- Difficulty functioning at work, school or home
- Withdrawing from friends or activities
Only a qualified clinician can make a diagnosis. Many of these experiences overlap with other conditions.
How we help
Short-term psychotherapy focused on coping and problem-solving is often very effective. Medication may help with specific symptoms such as sleep or anxiety.
All care at EKM Psychiatry is delivered by secure telehealth across New York.
