Conditions we treat
Panic Disorder
Panic disorder involves repeated, unexpected panic attacks — sudden waves of intense fear with strong physical symptoms — and worry about having more attacks.
What it can look like
- Sudden episodes of intense fear
- Racing or pounding heart, sweating or trembling
- Shortness of breath or chest discomfort
- Feeling dizzy, unreal or out of control
- Avoiding places where attacks have happened
Only a qualified clinician can make a diagnosis. Many of these experiences overlap with other conditions.
How we help
Panic disorder responds well to treatment. Your provider will first make sure physical causes have been considered, then may recommend cognitive behavioral therapy, medication, or both.
All care at EKM Psychiatry is delivered by secure telehealth across New York.
