Conditions we treat

Postpartum Depression

Postpartum (perinatal) depression is depression during pregnancy or after having a baby. It is common, it is not your fault, and it is treatable.

What it can look like

  • Persistent sadness, anxiety or feeling overwhelmed
  • Crying more often than usual
  • Trouble bonding with your baby
  • Feeling guilty or like a bad parent
  • Changes in sleep or appetite beyond what a new baby causes
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby

Only a qualified clinician can make a diagnosis. Many of these experiences overlap with other conditions.

How we help

We provide evaluation and treatment during pregnancy and after delivery, including careful discussion of medication options while pregnant or breastfeeding, and therapy support.

All care at EKM Psychiatry is delivered by secure telehealth across New York.

Self-check questionnaire

Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS)

Private: your answers stay on your own device. They are scored in your browser and are never sent to EKM Psychiatry or saved. This is a screening tool, not a diagnosis.

As you are pregnant or have recently had a baby, we would like to know how you are feeling. Please choose the answer that comes closest to how you have felt in the past 7 days, not just how you feel today.
